External Referrals & Referral Labs

Lab technicians, Lab admins referrals external-labs outsourced-tests

Some tests can't be performed in-house and need to be sent to an outside laboratory. Two pages manage this:

External Labs (lab/pages/external_labs.php) — the directory of partner reference labs your clinic sends samples to.
External Referrals (lab/pages/referrals.php) — sends a specific order item out to one of those external labs, and later receives the result back.
Receive External Report (lab/pages/referral_receive.php) — links an uploaded report file to the referral once the external lab's result comes back, using the same upload mechanism as other report uploads elsewhere in the app (it only records the link afterward, without duplicating upload logic).

Step-by-step: setting up an external lab

From an order, choose Send Referral on the relevant order item.
Select the external lab to send it to.
Track the referral's status until the result comes back.
Once received, go to Receive External Report, upload the result file, and link it to the referral.

turnaround time depends entirely on the external lab; follow up with them directly using your usual channel.

make sure you're using the specific "Receive External Report" flow for that referral ID rather than a generic upload elsewhere in the app.
